Whistler Ice Skating

Located right in the heart of Whistler, and a mere stones throw from Summit Lodge & Spa, is the a beautiful brand new outdoor skating rink. The Resort Municipality of Whistler has transformed the Great Lawn of the Whistler Olympic Plaza into a beautiful outdoor ice rink, complete with disco ball and music. Surrounded by the iconic Olympic rings, an outdoor fireplace and epic views of the mountains, this is a definite must-do while in Whistler.

The new ice rink offers an inner covered area as well as, an outer ice track for those who like a bit of speed.

March Events:

  • Full Moon Skate: March 8 from 6 p.m. – 12 a.m. Starting at 9 p.m., the first 20 skaters who arrive wearing ALL white receive free rentals!
  • Extended Daytime Hours: Rental concession open 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on March 17, 18, 24, 25.

Rental skates available for $5 from 11 AM to 2 PM & 6 PM to 9 PM
Optional helmets are complimentary

†Exceptions on holidays or when Olympic Plaza is booked for private functions.

*Rink closed from 5 to 6 PM for ice maintenance.

Getaway Activities in Whistler this June

Lots of fun things to do as we head towards our sunny Whistler weekends. Here are the Summit Lodge Staff picks for the month of June!

Getting Creative

There will be a plethora of artsy things to feast yours eyes upon or get your hands stuck in to. Quilts on the Mountain: The Whistler Valley Quilters Guild will be holding a daring exhibition June 11-12 featuring local artists and modern displays including “Passages, Portals & Beyond”. Workshops and presentations from renowned quilters will be at hand for expert advice and learning.

Whistler Art Workshops on the Lake: Every week from mid June to mid August, take part in Whistler’s 2-4 day workships by the majestic Alta Lake with picturesque views of snow covered Whistler, Blackcomb and Wedge Mountains. Beginner to Intermediate level courses include life drawing, sketching, oil, watercolor and acrylic painting! Register online or by calling 604.935.8410.

 

Family Fun, Fun, Fun!

Grab your favorite teddy bears and join in with the picnic festivities for the 18th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic at the Myrtle Philip Community School. This free event is open to children 6 years old, with their bears and parents, for vase decorating, flower planting, bubble blowing fun! Event starts at 10.30. Story readings, dancing and singing will be courtesy of “Music with Marnie”.

Finally, the Whistler Famer’s Market returns with fresh local produce, gourmet delights, and local crafts, jewelry, live entertainment, activities and so much more!! Situated on the lively Upper Village Stroll every Sunday from 11am – 4pm and Wednesday 3pm – 7pm from June 20 to October 10

Sporting Times

The Tenderfoot Boogie Ultra Trail Race is possibly one of the most impressive races as they conquer anything from gentle slopes to climbs and descents on the Sea-to-Sky Trail. Register here to take part on June 18th.

Whistler Sliding Centre will host this year’s Whistler Longboard Festival, presented by UNKLE. Over 100 top international racers will drop over 1.5km at audacious speeds along Whistler’s winding mountain roads. Event is June 26 and is free for spectators.

Thursday night is Toonie Rides, hosted by Whistler Off Road Cycling Asscociation (WORCA). Join them for a off road ride with local and visiting riders. Races are open to all ages, young and old, and of all abilities. Helmet is must and bikes must be in good working order. Only $2 to participate, of which the proceeds will benefit WORCA’s trail maintenance program. Program running until mid September. Click here for more information.
