The Whistler Film Festival takes place in beautiful Whistler Village from November 30 to December 4, 2011. This will be the 11th annual festival and you can “prepare for the unexpected” at this five day film extravaganza.
The Whistler Film Festival presents films from Canada and all around the world. Premiers, from North Americas top directors, as well as feature films, documentaries, and shorts, in all over eighty films, are presented at the festival. Over sixty percent of the films presented are Canadian made films. Over $50,000 in prizes are awarded to film makers, actors, and other film industry participants in nine major categories.
Besides the eighty plus film screenings, The Whistler Film Festival offers many other exciting events. There is an opening gala, a celebrity ski race and parties, tributes to some of the industries great talents, an awards brunch and a closing gala.
Most films at the festival are unrated and you have to be 18 to attend an unrated film. The Whistler Film Festival does offer family day programming and an outdoor screening under the winter stars.
The online box office opens for advance ticket sales on November 10 and Festival box office phone sales begin at the same time. The festival box office opens on November 24 for walk up sales and is located in the kiosk directly in front of the Whistler Conference Centre. The film screenings will take place at venues throughout Whistler Village including the Whistler Conference Centre, Village 8 Cinemas and Millennium Place.
Coinciding with the Whistler Film Festival this year will be the Whistler Summit. The Whistler Summit is a comprehensive business and creative conference for film, television and digital media. This event will feature roundtable sessions, panel discussions, speaker series, one-on one meetings, interactive workshops, and networking event. This is a great networking opportunity for filmmakers and professionals in the industry.
Information regarding the films to be presented will be available online in early November at Whistler Film Festival.
